Amanda K. Demackiewicz-Schovanec of Kingfisher graduated with a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree at the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine commencement ceremony held on May 15.

She was one of 118 medical students who graduated from OSU-COM this spring.

Demackiewicz-Schovanec is the daughter of Amber and John Demackiewicz of Kingfisher and Oklahoma City, respectively. She is the granddaughter of Bill and Linda Tucker, and Jerald and Debby Schroeder of Kingfisher.

She graduated Okarche High School in 2013.

While at OSU, Demackiewicz-Schovanec’ s activities included leading an active role in organizing St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraisers for childhood cancer research in Tulsa.

She also served as the Global Medicine Club fundraising coordinator, with proceeds aiding in the construction of a fully sustainable clinic in Atiak, Uganda.

Demackiewicz-Schovanec participated in political advocacy events at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., as well as the Oklahoma state Capitol, fighting for improvements in rural health care and rural residency training sites.

In May, she received the OSU Obstetrics and Gynecology Departmental Award for the class of 2021.

Demackiewicz-Schovanec will be completing her training as an obstetrician/gynecologist at OSU Medical Center at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

Afterwards, she plans to address the health needs of rural Oklahomans as an OB/GYN physician.
