Okarche lands sweepstakes win at regional speech
Okarche brought home the sweepstakes trophy last weekend from the Class 3A southwest regional speech and debate tournament.
On top of the team claiming the overall championship, several team members placed in the top four of their respective events, which qualified them for the state tournament.
There were several state alternates hailing from Okarche as well.
Jace Rother won first in poetry and second in humorous interpretation with his duet partner, Chloe Goble.
Goble also placed first in monologue and third in humorous interpretation.
Rylie Bomhoff placed first in humorous interpretation and dramatic interpretation.
Anna Shirey was second in original oratory and qualified for state in domestic extemp.
Afton Shirey took third in poetry and is an alternate for monologue.
Suzann Smith won first in humorous duet with Reagan Marler and third in dramatic duet, also with Marler.
Smith also got third in domestic extemp.
Zoe Palmer placed first in dramatic duet with her partner, Maddie Vogt, and second in dramatic interpretation.
Vogt also placed third in dramatic interpretation and foreign extemp.
Elizabeth Shroder placed first in standard oratory.
Julia Rayburn also placed second in standard oratory. She is also an alternate for humorous duet with her partner, Jaci Black.
Sara Jacobs and Mkenna Sadler qualified for state with their dramatic duet.
Sadler is also an alternate for monologue and Jacobs is an alternate for prose.
The team is coached by TJ Harris.
State will take place April 11-13 at Rose State College in Oklahoma City.
