The Okarche High School production of Jim Leonard, Jr.’s, “And They Dance Real Slow in Jackson” has advanced to the state finals in the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) one-act play competition.

OHS qualified by placing second at the Leedey regional contest. Leedey won the event with Stratford placing third.

In addition, two OHS students were named to the all-star cast, a recognition given to the top-10 performances of the day. McKenzie Stewart and Wyatt Lovins were recognized for their performances in the Okarche drama.

Also featured in the play are the following: Emily Neuenschwander, Kenzie Beard, Marley Hill, Kylie Bailey, Riley Black, Madison Schaefer, Brody Sadler, Emma Stover, Michael Dunkin, Jace Rother, Ethan Schroder, Chloe Goble, Rylie Bomhoff, Suzann Smith, Afton Shirey, Reagan Marler, Zoe Palmer and Harper White.

Kaylea Steelman serves as lighting technician and Anna Shirey is the sound technician.

The group is taught and coached by Lyndal Westmoreland.

For its 10th consecutive trip to state, OHS joins Alva, Cherokee, Crescent, Latta, Sequoyah-Tahlequah, Lincoln Christian, Leedey and Stratford.

The state contest will be held at a site to be determined on Saturday, Oct. 30.
