Okarche PD Honors Former Officer
Okarche Police Department dedicated a patrol vehicle Thursday in memory of Jordan Cannon, a Cleveland County Deputy with Okarche ties who was shot and killed in an alleged domestic violence incident earlier this month. The new SUV is decked in purple signage intended to promote domestic violence awareness, including a purple ribbon and the hotline number domestic violence victims can call to get help. Members of Jordan’s family were on hand for the dedication ceremony, including her son, Wyatt, left, who stood with OPD Chief Forrest Smith. Smith said domestic violence prevention is a special focus of his department and in addition to the visual message of the car itself, the offi cers driving it will be handing out pins commemorating domestic violence awareness to every person they encounter. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and representatives of the Kingfi sher, Canadian and Garfi eld county district attorney’s offi ces and victim advocates from several counties were among the crowd attending the event.
