The Okarche High School speech team opened its competitive season Nov. 4-5 by hosting 15 schools in Classes 3A and 4A for the annual Warrior Classic Speech and Debate Tournament.

In addition to hosting the first qualifying competition for the state’s two smallest speech classifications, Okarchehad placingsin the tournament.

Senior Brody Sadler was tournament champion in domestic extemp.

Riley Black, another senior, was tournament champion in dramatic interp.

Senior Wyatt Lovins teamed with sophomore Zoe Palmer to place second in dramatic duet. Palmer also placed second in prose.

Junior Chloe Goble claimed the first-place trophy in humorous duet.

Freshman Madelein Vogt placed in two events:first in standard oratory and second in foreign extemp.

The team’s next competition is Nov. 19 in Marlow.

The speech students are also working on their Christmas plays to be presented on Sunday, Dec. 11.
