Okarche speech team wins 3A sweepstakes at Okeene
The Okarche speech team traveled to Okeene on Feb. 3 and 4 and brought home the Class 3A sweepstakes plaque.
Okeene’s annual invitational speech tournament drew entries from nine area high schools in Class 3A.
Okarche was first, followed by Cherokee with second and Crescent placed third.
OHS had 13 placings in the contest and brought home three special awards.
Brody Sadler was second in public forum debate with his brother Kyle Sadler and placed second in domestic extemp.
Madison Schaefer was second in dramatic interp and third in poetry.
Riley Black was third in monologue and a finalist in poetry.
Afton Shirey placed second in poetry.
Shirey and Harper White were third in humorous duet.
Anna Shirey was first in public forum debate with her partner Maddie Vogt. Shirey also placed third in domestic extemp.
Vogt placed second in domestic extemp and third in prose.
Jace Rother was second in humorous interp and a finalist in dramatic interp.
Zoe Palmer was first in standard oratory with Wager Black placing second.
Other finalists included Hunter Buck in both domestic extemp and prose and Sara Leck in poetry.
In addition to the placings in the various events, Okarche students won three speaker awards.
Anna Shirey received an award for being the top debate speaker in 3A public forum debate and Afton Shirey and Madison Schaefer tied for the top individual events competitor.
