Kingfisher County Commissioners approved a purchase contract for a new home for the Kingfisher County Health Department at their weekly meeting Monday.

The $250,000 purchase price for a location at 421 W. Bowman Ave., which is subject to inspection and surveys, will be paid entirely from health department budget savings reserved for that purpose for some 20 years, Commission Chairman Heath Dobrovolny said.

The structure, located behind the old Kingfisher Community Hospital, had previously been used as a doctor’s office.

(The former hospital site on South Ninth Street is now the home of the Cheyenne-Arapaho Emergency Response Center, which fronts on Toronto Avenue.)

The closing date has been set for Oct. 29.

Dobrovolny said District 1 Commissioner Jeff Moss received a call reporting availability of the structure shortly after a prior commission meeting when health department personnel appeared to request new quarters for the office due to structural problems in the courthouse annex, which has been home to the health department for many years.

District 2 Commissioner Ray Alan Shimanek moved to approve the proposal, which was accepted unanimously.

The building contains 5,000 square feet of space and has extensive parking, Dobrovolny said.

Commissioners approved a sole bid of $3,900 a month from Commercial Cleaning Services of Oklahoma City to provide courthouse custodial service.

County Engineer Nik Smith said the service includes hydrostatic detoxifying service, which will kill coronavirus.

Other routine business items approved included a list of requisition and receiving officers for all agencies receiving county funds, monthly reports from the offices of court clerk, treasurer, election board and county clerk preservation fund, a donation from Brian Best of shale, a contract with Eastern Oklahoma Youth Services for juvenile detainees at Pittsburg County Juvenile Detention Center on an as needed basis, and monthly appropriations for county offices.

Two road crossing permits for Ovintiv pipelines received approval, one in District 3 for a 16-inch water line located three miles west and one mile south of Kingfisher and one for a 12-inch water line in District 1 located three miles east and one mile north of Kingfisher.

Markwest Energy received approval for two pipeline crossings in District 3, one a four-inch steel gas line and one a 12-inch gas line both located three miles east and three miles south of Loyal

It was announced that commissioners would attend an Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma (ACCO) state meeting in Oklahoma City Wednesday.

County Clerk Jeannie Boevers served as official minute clerk.
