OSU Extension hosts babysitting workshop

The Kingfisher County OSU Extension Office hosted a “Babysitter’s Workshop” May 29 at the Kingfi sher County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building.

The workshop was offered to youth across Kingfi sher County ages 9 and up.

There were 17 youth who participated in the workshop.

The youth learned about child growth and development, age- appropriate activities, positive discipline, home safety, business aspects of babysitting, responsibilities of a primary caregiver, communicating with parents and job skills, and how to make healthy snacks.

Megan Waugh Monteith, FCS area specialist in health disparities from the West District in the South Area, taught and certified the youth in first aid and both adult and infant CPR.

As part of the class, campers were given instructions to build their own babysitting tool kit to take with them while babysitting, as well as their own first aid kit.

They learned about common food allergies and what to look for when dining out with a child.

Contact Heather Leitner, 4-H Youth Development Extension educator, at the Kingfisher County OSU Extension Office at 405-3753822 to get the schedule for other workshops planned for this summer.
