The largest employer in Kingfisher has announced it is dropping one of its major lines of business.

Pioneer Telephone Cooperative on Friday confi rmed that it is discontinuing it cellular operations, Pioneer Cellular.

The announcement was made through the cooperative’s social media platforms and on its website, gopioneer.com.

“We have made the business decision to discontinue our cellular operations by this summer,” the message read.

The Times & Free Press attempted to contact General Manager Blake Callaham, but no immediate response was provided before press time.

The message gave some information, but told customers that more details will be provided in the coming days and weeks.

“Pioneer Cellular is working with Verizon to ensure that our customers maintain their connectivity,” the message read.

“As a valued customer, we are working hard to define the specifics and ask for your patience as we work through the details.

“No action is needed by you or required at this time. In the next several weeks, impacted customers will receive a letter that will provide more information about transferring service and exclusive promos with Verizon. We will work tirelessly to ensure that your transition will be simple and seamless.”

It’s not immediately known how the move will affect Pioneer Cellular employees.

“Pioneer is working to understand the impact on our employees as we transition our business,” it read.

Other lines of business offered by the cooperative are expected to be unaffected.

“Please note that there is no impact to our broadband, telephone or iVideo customers,” the message read.

“While this decision to discontinue our cellular operations only impacts our wireless business, it will allow us to focus on our core business going forward of providing broadband service in our cooperative.”
