Police stop for expired tag leads to DUI arrest, according to report

By

A traffic stop May 12 for an expired license plate led to an arrest by Kingfisher police officers, according to KPD reports.

Officer Aaron Schlegel observed a vehicle with expired tags and a defective windshield as well as the driver not wearing a seatbelt on U.S. 81 and he initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle.

According to the report, the 45-year-old male suspect was determined to be driving without a valid driver’s license and insurance.

Schlegel said in his report he detected the odor of alcohol and marijuana and the driver appeared to exhibit signs of intoxication.

A field sobriety test was performed and the suspect was arrested for suspicion of DUI and driving while license is revoked, according to the report.

Officers performed an inventory of the vehicle and discovered a container with a green leafy substance (which field tested positive for marijuana) and a “mostly smoked” marijuana joint, the report said.

The suspect was transported to the Kingfisher County Criminal Justice Center and issued district citations for failure to pay taxes due to state, failure to comply with compulsory insurance law, failure to wear seatbelt, defective equipment, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicating substance.
