Poll workers needed; pay is doubling soon

By

The Kingfisher County Election Board began accepting poll worker applications April 19 and will continue to do so through December.

Applications are being accepted for the following positions:

• Inspector

• Judge

• Clerk

Currently the role of inspector pays $110. The other two positions pay $100 each.

However, said Kingfisher County Election Board Secretary Shawna Butts, those amounts will double in August.

Butts said all applicants must be willing to work long hours on election days and that training will be provided.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the election system,” she said. “While the hours can be long, poll workers are only needed a few days each year.”

Poll workers are compensated for their time and, in some cases, mileage for travel if you are more than 10 miles from the polling place, Butts said. The compensation schedule is outlined in state statutes.

To qualify, an applicant must be a registered voter in the county where he or she would like to work.

If hired, a poll worker cannot hold any other offices under the laws of the state (such as school board member or city councilman) and may not be related to or employed by a candidate for office.

Those interested in becoming a poll worker should contact the Kingfisher County Election Board at 405-375-3895 or Kingfishercounty@elections.ok.gov.

Election Board office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
