Premium sale earns more than $140K for exhibitors

By

Local 4-H and FFA exhibitors from all over the county put their hard work on display at the 93rd annual Kingfisher County Spring Livestock Show recently held at the MACenter.

Of those, 100 top-placing animals and their exhibitors qualified for the premium auction held Monday, Feb. 27 at the fairgrounds’ Exhibit Building.

Over 400 individuals gathered for the bidder’s feed and auction to support the county’s youth and ultimately contributed a total of $143,423 by the close of the event.

Tyndal Fields of Cashion earned the top bid of $5,550 on her gilt and Lomega’s Rylee Glazier took home $5,000 on her barrow.

Makenzie Hladik of Hennessey received a $2,800 bid on her steer and Cade Charmasson, also of Hennessey, earned $2,450 on his wether lamb.

Kase Glazier of Lomega garnered a $2,300 bid on his heifer and Colton Burns of Kingfisher earned $1,400 on his wether goat.

Kingfisher’s Rylan Burns received a $1,300 premium on his doe goat and Abby Swart of Lomega brought in $1,200 with her ewe lamb.

As a non-terminal sale, the animal remains the property of the exhibitor and proceeds are paid to the student as a reward for their effort in caring for, preparing and showing the top livestock.

Students then have the opportunity to continue to show their animal at the next levels of competition with the possibility of earning further recognition and additional prize money.

Kingfisher County Extension Director and Agriculture Educator Bryan Kennedy said the annual event was a success.

Although, the number of exhibitors was down a small amount from previous years, there was still a good turnout despite the current economy, Kennedy said.

“The sale was extremely good, with the 100 exhibitors who qualifi ed for the sale averaging $1,400 each for their animals,” he added.

“We appreciate the support of all those involved.”
