Pride of Kingfisher battles heat, garners ‘1’ at Tri-State

Oppressive heat tried to stop the Pride of Kingfisher marching band.

But it wasn’t successful. The group of perfromers from Kingfisher High School achieved the highest score Saturday at the Tri-State Marching Festival in Enid.

Judges awarded the Pride a superior rating after their performance of “Realms of Magic.”

But it wasn’t easy. “It was a tough day with the heat and the humidity combined with band uniforms,” said Mandy Owens, who conducts the band along with Dakota Horn.

“But the kids powered through to give a great performance.”

The band has been working on the performance before, during and after school since Aug. 1.

Members will continue to refine it as they get set for two more competitions in the coming weeks.

They’ll return to Enid Oct. 11 for the OSSAA regional competition.

The Pride will then trek to Claremore on Oct. 14 for the Oklahoma Band Association contest for Classes 2A and 3A.
