Property damage reported in Hennessey

By

Hennessey Police Detective Brad Logan was dispatched to 711 S. Main St. recently about a report that someone may have broken in the vacant building that previously housed Eagle Auto Supply.

The call came about 5:15 Saturday, Aug. 26.

Property owner John Henry Haymaker met the officer, who observed the front door to the building, facing east, was shattered, his report said.

It went on to say there was broken glass on the ground and inside the building. The deadbolt was still locked and the door frame appeared to be secure, according to the detective’s report.

Haymaker said his wife, Karen, had been in the building Aug. 24, and he did not believe the door was shattered then.

Upon inspection of the area, Logan reported he saw tire tracks that appeared to be from an all-terrain vehicle, “such as a side-by-side, or a four-wheeler, or dirt bike.”

The tire tracks left tread markings in the soft gravel, traveling from west of South Main Street onto the property and back to the east.

The tread marks appeared to be fresh and untouched by weather and possibly made within 24 hours, the report said.

Logan took several photographs of the scene. Logan said he was also seeking surveillance footage.

Haymaker said he would board up the busted door to make sure the building is secure.

Logan checked the property the next day and the door had been secured with plywood, the report said.
