A new rodeo queen and princess will be crowned this weekend at the 64th Kingfisher Rodeo sponsored by the Kingfisher Roundup Club.

Candidates for 2021 Kingfisher Roundup Club rodeo queen are Hayley May and Adriana Gonzalez.

Princess contestants are Kayci Jo Harrison and Kenzley Mendel.

The winners will be announced Saturday night (Aug. 14), which is the final night of the two-day rodeo.

The rodeo begins each night at 8 p.m. Pre-show begins at 7:45 p.m. both nights.

It is part of the World Champions Rodeo Alliance (WCRA) circuit.

Events will include ranch bronc riding, bull riding, tie down roping, ribbon roping, breakaway (girls, women and boys 14-under), double mugging, team roping, open barrels, junior barrels (14-under) and mutton bustin’ (6-under).

Advance tickets are $6. Tickets at the gate will be $8.

Children 8-under get in free.

Tickets can be purchased from any rodeo queen or princess candidate.

Hayley May

May, 17, is the daughter of Jaimie and Michael Wood of Guthrie. She’s currently a junior at Guthrie High School.

She spends most of her time with her family, her horse Raza and her great-grandparents.

She’s been to smalltown rodeos and said she looks forward to some bigger rodeos next year.

May said her dream is to make a little girl or boy fall in love with the sport of rodeo like she did when she was younger.

Adriana Gonzalez

Gonzalez is the daughter of Sergio and Lupita Gonzalez of Hennessey.

She is 15 years old and is currently a sophomore at Hennessey High School.

She participates in volleyball, softball and track. Gonzalez said her love for rodeo started when she was younger when her dad took her and her siblings to rodeos.

She started running barrels in the fifth grade and still continues to enjoy running barrels and pole bending.

She said she hopes to inspire people and spread the sport of rodeo.

Kayci Jo Harrison

Harrison, 6, is the daughter of Colton and Melissa Harrison of Kingfisher.

She is the granddaughter of Bob and Teresa Rucker of El Reno and Kevin and Carol Harrison of Dover.

She’s currently in the first grade at Gilmour Elementary School.

Harrison is a member of the Kingfisher Roundup Club and she competes in barrels, pole bending and mutton bustin’.

She is also learning to rope so that someday she can compete in breakaway roping as well.

She said she loves rodeo, riding horses, hunting, trapping, fishing and playing t-ball. She also enjoys helping catch, sort and doctor cattle on the family farm. One day she wants to own horses of her own to train and to become a firefighter to help save lives.

Kenzley Mendel

Mendel is the 5-year-old daughter of Kelly and Whitney Mendel of Okarche.

She is the granddaughter of Dusty and Becky Munsell of Calumet and Mike and Kim Mendel of Okarche.

She is currently in kindergarten at Okarche Elementary.

She said she loves her pony, Chocolate, and competing in Edmond Junior Rodeos and Heart of Oklahoma Youth Rodeo Association (HOYRA), where she competes in the 6-under barrels poles and goat undecorating.

Mendel has a baby sister named Ruby Roan whom she said she loves with her whole heart and to whom she is the best big sister.
