Rain drought ends with Wednesday night storms

Rain, vital to recently- and earlier-sown small grain fields, made a late October appearance in Kingfi sher County Wednesday evening.

Amounts ranged from .68 inch at the David Krittenbrink residence in Okarche to three inches on Country Lane northwest of Kingfisher.

The Mesonet site on the Mueggenborg Farm at the west edge of Kingfisher recorded 2.14 inches.

Local Weather Observer Steven Loftis recorded 2.25 inches at the National Weather Service Station in Kingfisher, bringing the total for the year to 27.04 inches.

Other amounts reported across the county included the following: (Amounts reported to Tom Arms’ Facebook page included – Arms residence, 2.7 inches; Juanita Krittenbrink, northwest of Okarche, 1.42 inches; Sabrina Nault, 3.35 inches, northwest of Kingfisher; Cheila Evey, 2.2 inches, northeast of Kingfisher; Cathy Howard, 1.2 inches, northwest of Lacey; Mike Rosen, one inch, 1.5 miles east of Kingfisher; Diana Helt, northwest of Kingfi sher, three inches; Erica Mercer, 2.9 inches, five miles west of Kingfisher; L.J. Reherman, southeast of Kingfisher, .8 inch.)

Other amounts reported included: Cashion – Cashion Grain and Feed Elevator, .7 inch.

Hennessey – one inch to 1.5 inches in the area, as reported to CHS Elevator.

Kingfisher – one inch reported at the Twila Adams residence, five miles east of Kingfisher, and 1.75 inches at the Mike and Donna Reid residence about three miles southwest of Kingfisher on Park Community Road.

Okarche – .75 inch at the CHS Elevator.

Omega – .8 inch at the Donald Schweitzer residence.

Mesonet readings included: Kingfisher, 2.14 inches; El Reno, .49 inch; Guthrie, .89 inch; Watonga, .21 inch and Marshall, 2.57 inches.

Effects of the rain were apparent by Friday as formerly brown fields began turning green.

Additional rain is forecasted by the National Weather Service starting Friday night and continuing Saturday (100% chance), Saturday night (90%) and continuing Sunday into Monday when the forecast called for an 80% chance of additional rain.

Wednesday’s rain was the first recorded in the county in October.
