Rain pushes back harvest
Locally heavy mid-week rains likely pushed back the start of wheat harvest season for a few more days.
While the official Kingfisher report showed .74 inch Thursday at the Mesonet site on the Mueggenborg farm and a total of 1.4 inches by Local Weather Observer Steven Loftis in Kingfisher, some reported up to 1.75 near Okarche.
Loftis’ report from the Kingfisher National Weather Service station included .4 inch at 7 a.m. Wednesday and 1 inch on Thursday.
The new round of showers fell Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, adding to already sodden fields as grain was turning from green to harvest-ready gold.
Other county rain reports included: Kingfisher – Tom Arms, three miles west of Kingfi sher, .9 inch; Twila Adams, five miles east of Kingfisher, one inch; Marsha Mueggenborg, one mile east of Kingfisher, .77 inch, and Mike Reid, 3.5 miles southwest of Kingfisher, 1.55 inches.
Dover – Rick and Robin Johnston, northwest of Dover, .75 inch.
Cashion – Cashion Grain and Feed Elevator, 1.5 inches.
Hennessey – CHS Elevator, reports of .6 inch to one inch in the vicinity.
Loyal-Omega – Wheeler Brothers Grain Elevator, .6 inch.
Okarche – Melissa Knecht, three miles east of Okarche, 1.4 inches; Dave Krittenbrink, Okarche, 1.7 inches; Saundra Krittenbrink, two miles west of Okarche, 1.7 inches, and Okarche Grain and Feed Elevator, eight miles west of Okarche, 1.6 inches.
