Relief brought by rain, cooler temps

By

Kingfisher County received a smattering of rain Tuesday and Wednesday, much less than was wanted, but the conditions and a northerly breeze brought cooler daytime temperatures to the county.

High temperatures in the low 80s and upper 70s – and even a predicted 66 degree high on Saturday – brought relief from summertime heat, although the autumn equinox arrived on Sept. 23.

While the rain and cooler temperatures were welcome, they weren’t enough to spur high activity in fields where farmers are waiting for enough moisture to bring newly-sown fields up to a stand.

Local Weather Observer Steve Loftis measured .20 inch of rain at the National Weather Service station in Kingfi sher.

Cashion Grain and Feed Elevator reported the heaviest rainfall in the county at .8 inch.

CHS Elevator at Hennessey and Okarche Grain and Feed Elevator both reported in the neighborhood of onehalf inch.

Robin Johnston of the Times and Free Press staff reported only light showers at her residence northwest of Dover, although she reported a heavy shower while driving in Dover while driving home Wednesday.

Jeremy Ingle, northeast of Dover, reported showers and some hail at the Ingle residence.

Tom Arms’ Face- book account received the following rain reports: Cathy Howard, Lacey, .4 inch; JoAnn Holthus, east of Dover, one inch; Dennis Schieber, two miles south of Okarche, .4 inch. Arms recorded .1 inch at his residence, west of Kingfisher.

The Mesonet site west of Kingfisher on the Mueggenborg Farm recoded .1 inch for the week.

Other Mesonet readings for the vicinity included .02 inch at Watonga, .29 inch at Guthrie 1.52 inches at El Reno, .29 inch at Marshall and.65 inch at Minco.

Heaviest rainfall fell at Ardmore in southern Oklahoma at 4.65 inches.

The rain clouds spread from far northeast Oklahoma across the central portion of the state, then reached back to southeast Oklahoma where Valliant received 3.89 inches and Broken Bow 2.21 inches.
