Remember when you could believe TV news?

Remember when you could believe TV news?

I remember when a person could believe a television news report – not all the time, but sometimes.

Now TV watchers are highly suspicious about anything that comes out of the talking heads.

Remember back when members of The Proud Boys, a conservative group, were indicted in federal court for seditious conspiracy for their roles in “storming” the capitol on Jan. 6?

There were conservative hints at that time that FBI agents were imbedded in the unrest.

Now, Red State, a conservative site, the kind the ever- so-correct Justice Department, says we should ignore, tells us that even the New York Times is reporting that as as many as eight FBI agents were working in the group, (but only as informants, we’re aassured). The existence of the informants came to light over the past few days in a flurry of veiled court filings by defense lawyers for five members of the Proud Boys who are set to go on trial next month on seditious conspiracy charges connected to the capitol protest, Red State reports.

In the court filings, which were heavily redacted, the lawyers claimed that some of the information the confidential sources had provided to the government was favorable to their efforts to defend their clients against sedition charges and was improperly withheld by prosecutors until several days ago.

It’s nice to know that needlessly accused protesters are getting a fair shake from their government. Right?!

FBI Involved All Along?

Then RedState added: One possibility is that the Proud Boys weren’t planning an insurrection and that conservatives who have called it a spontaneous event have been right all along. That would nuke all the deranged attempts to suggest that Republicans, including Donald Trump, somehow orchestrated the entry into the capitol building. The other possibility is that the FBI knew a riot was going to take place and did nothing to stop it, instead letting it play out for political reasons. Wouldn’t that be something? Yet, I wouldn’t even begin to put it past them.

Of course, everything I’m writing here might as well be words thrown into the sea. The FBI is nothing if it isn’t a completely unaccountable behemoth.

Thus, corruption of formerly respected government agencies proceeds on.

And we’re still supposed to swallow the gobbledegook spun out about COVID-19 spread by Dr. Fauci, another “reliable” government spokesman and serious scientist.

Now, Where Did That Virus Originate?

And to think the virus may have actually come from a Chinese laboratory.

If America’s “democracy,” which leftists moaned so much about in the run-up to the mid-term elections, is to survive, conservatives are going to have to figure out a way to stop the mail-in garbage.

Columnist and and American history teacher in Thailand Mark Lewis has some thouhts on that. He points out Republicans won the popular vote in the midterm elections. This is unusual and hasn’t happened in a presidential election in a long time. Why this 5+ million popular vote edge didn’t translate into greater Congressional gains is subject to debate, though I think most of us are suspicious. Still, if Republicans can finally figure out how to stop Democratic cheating, or play the hand they’re dealt, maybe this popular vote majority will continue and create better results in the future. There does appear to be a small, but growing Hispanic and black voter movement towards the GOP.

Meanwhile, Congress returned to Washington for a lame-duck session last week while the final House races were being sorted out. (Republicans did win a slim majority.)

Also, Former President Trump made his announcement in Florida that he was a candidate again for president.

While his ill-advised slaps at re-elected Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis have been criticized by many conservatives, Trump’s accomplishments as president have to be appreciated – robust and growing economy, secure southern border, energy sufficiency and no new wars started just to name a few.

Whoever is elected in 2024 – if sincerely interested in restoring America’s previous prominent position in the world – will have huge new problems to overcome thanks to the Biden presidency, often seen as the third divisive term of his mentor, Barack Obama.

It’s still hard to believe that Biden could have been elected... after his disastrous two-year run to date.

It speaks to the problem of an electorate that has fallen for the bait of “free” stuff from Washington.

The cost of free hand-outs is being borne now in the terms of overwhelming inflation that has reduced the buying power of working people as well as a national debt that may well destroy the nation.

One thing, people (even his harshest critics) have to give to Trump, he took actions that benefitted working people.

Bright Spots Spotted

Meanwhile, the state of Oklahoma proved its sensibility once again by electing a complete slate of conservative officials, despite tons of money flowing into the state to defeat them.

Another bright spot for rural Oklahoma is the quality students local schools produce. Rather than going to colleges unprepared (as so many youngsters are), they go there to lead.

I was impressed when I read the story on Page One of last Sunday’s edition reporting that Kingfisher High School graduates Emily Garrett and Madelyn Gerken were named top Oklahoma State University seniors.

Not only that, but another KHS graduate, Bree Taylor won the same high honor the preceding year.

Such awards speak highly of the school they came from and the support they received from their parents.

Another high honor for Kingfisher County education came with the announcement that Lomega High School ranked seventh in the entire state in ACT scores for the Class of 2021 – the last for which records are available Such achievements show that our teachers are working hard to made outstanding citizens of their students.

Our local teachers do it for much more than the money they rightfully earn. They truly “do it for the kids.”
