Rourke hosts July Farmerettes meeting
The Hennessey Farmerettes met July 11 in the home of Lily Rourke.
Several members were present before the meeting to work on crafts for the Hennessey Library.
Nine members were present as the meeting was opened by President Pansy Wheeler. Paula Nicholson held the American flag as members recited the pledge.
The OHCE creed was read by all.
The devotion was given by Mary Curry. “The Meaning of the 13 Folds” told about each fold when the American flag is folded.
Silent prayer was offered in memory of members Billie Melendy and Jean Stribel. Melendy passed away May 19 and Stribel on July 2.
Roll call was answered by everyone telling if they have an American flag in their home. Each replied with a “yes.”
Some discussion followed about how to dispose of a flag correctly. Others shared about other flag instances.
The minutes of the April meeting were read and corrected to add Kathy Patocka as the lesson leader at that meeting.
Treasurer Maxine Helgeson provided her report.
Two letters from the Melendy family were read. They thanked the club for the food when Billie was sick and after her passing.
Food was also taken to the Jean Stribel home.
Sheets to sign for volunteer expenses and time were distributed and given to Wheeler to deliver.
Helgeson reported on the club’s trip to Crescent on June 13 and several told of other enjoyments of the day and what everyone did and ate.
Seven members and one guest attended.
Nicholson told of the great response received when she took the craft items to the library.
Some other forms were also filled out about the meeting two months ago and given to Wheeler.
In unfinished business, the county fair is set for Aug. 21-24. Members were reminded they needed to get busy with items to enter and bring the items to the next meeting unless it is something cooked.
There was discussion about doing a table setting project; the decision was made to do one with the theme of “afternoon tea party.”
Rourke is in charge and Jamie Akenhead, Dot Miller and Nicholson will assist her.
Information from the OHCE newsletter was shared. Two members Mary Curry and Margie McConnell - were honored to be 50-year members.
Curry gave a lesson about honoring the flag and veterans. She shared a show-and-tell as well as passing out sheets full of information pertaining to the flag and veterans.
She also gave members a game to play as homework.
The next meeting is Aug. 8 and will be at Dedee Krueger’s home with Miller serving as lesson leader.
Members can bring any cast iron cooking utensils to the meeting as well as fair items to enter.
The penny drill was won by Miller. Her cupcake had a message on the bottom telling her so.
Rourke served “English trifle” as the refreshment as well as crackers and cheese. Chocolate candy was on the table throughout the meeting.
