Russ wins treasurer seat; 5 others earn spot on Nov. 8 ballot

Todd Russ will step into office as the new state treasurer in January after defeating Clark Jolley by a 55.5% margin in the Republican runoff primary.

The current state representative (Russ) and former state senator (Jolley) emerged as the top two votegetters from a three-candidate field in the June Republican primary. In Tuesday’s runoff vote, Russ carried 150,367 votes to 120,515 for Jolley. Russ also carried Kingfisher County by a margin of 58.5% (1,207 votes to 855). Russ will succeed current state treasurer Randy McDaniel, who did not file for re-election.

State School Superintendent

Ryan Walters, current state education secretary, won the Republican nomination for state school superintendent by a margin of 53.4%.

He carried 149,086 of the statewide vote to 130,116 for April Grace.

Results were flipped in Kingfisher County, where Republicans chose Grace by a margin of 51.5% (1,088 votes to 1,023 for Walters).

Walters will face Democrat Jena Nelson in the November general election.

Labor Commissioner

Republican incumbent Leslie Osborn is another step closer to retaining her seat after defeating challenger Sean Roberts 53-47% in the GOP runoff primary.

Osborn carried 143,883 votes statewide to 127,526 for Roberts.

She won Kingfisher County by an even larger margin of 57.4%, earning 1,185 votes to 880 for Roberts.

She’ll face Democrat Jack Henderson and Libertarian Will Daugherty in the general election.

Corporation Commission

Current State Sen. Kim David defeated former state representative Todd Thomsen to earn the Republican nomination for Corporation Commissioner. David carried 59.1% of the votes statewide to win the race 158,752 to 109,777.

In Kingfisher County, David won by a 58.3% margin, earning 1,196 votes to 856 for Thomsen.

She’ll face Democrat Margaret Bowman and Independent Don Underwood on the Nov. 8 general election ballot.

U.S. Senate (unexpired)

Current U.S. Rep. Markwayne Mullin won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senator by a sizeable 65.1 percent margin statewide over opponent T.W. Shannon.

The pair emerged as the top candidates in a wideopen field of 13 Republican contenders in the June GOP primary after U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe announced his resignation, effective next January.

Mullin earned 183,034 votes in Tuesday’s runoff to 98,215 for Shannon, former Oklahoma speaker of the house.

In Kingfisher County, the race was tighter, with 1,174 voting for Mullin (55.4%) to 945 for Shannon (44.6%.)

Mullin will face former Democratic congresswoman Kendra Horn, Libertarian Robert Murphy and Independent Ray Woods on the November ballot.

Cybersecurity specialist and Stillwell native Madison Horn won the battle between two political newcomers to earn the Democrat nomination for the state’s other U.S. Senate seat.

Horn carried 65.5% of the statewide vote against Jason Bollinger, an Oklahoma City attorney and former U.S. state department employee.

Horn earned 60,896 Democrat votes to 32,098 for Bollinger, formerly of Elk City.

Her margin was slightly smaller in Kingfisher County, where she carried 117 Democrat votes (61.3%) to 74 for Bollinger.

She’ll take on a seasoned Republican incumbent, U.S. Sen. James Lankford, in the November general election.
