Sales tax figures provided a reason for optimism in Kingfisher County, according to the June distribution announced by the Oklahoma Tax Commission.

Several area towns showed nice increases, including Hennessey, El Reno, Guthrie, Piedmont, Geary, Marshall as well as Kingfisher County.

While Kingfisher’s sales tax did not quite match last year’s amount, Kingfisher showed a 7.6 % gain per penny of tax collected. The Kingfisher tax was 3% this year compared to 3.335% a year ago.

The June 2021 distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from April business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from April 16-30 and estimated sales from May 1 to May 15.

The disbursement of $183,157,926 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $40,826,490 from the $142,331,436 distributed to the cities and towns in June last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $24,521,257.

In county returns, the counties shared in a $30,856,699 sales tax disbursement and a $5,405,288 use tax disbursement.

Use tax checks were up and down for local towns surveyed.

Use tax is collected at the same rate as a local entity’s sales tax on merchandise purchased out of state for delivery in the state.

Comparison of use tax checks received for several area towns this June and last June with the June 2021 amount listed first.

Cashion – $7,877.43 and $8,748.60.

Dover – $3.445.63 and $2,561.04.

Hennessey – $16,634.58 and $14,825.96.

Kingfisher – $35,038.53 and $61,016.74

Okarche – $16,234.61 and $19,252.20.

Crescent – $7,389.81 and $5,853.06.
