School board filing is early next month

By

Candidate filing for the board of education seats at all Kingfi sher County public schools begins Monday, Dec. 2.

Those who wish to file for a board of education office must submit a Declaration of Candidacy to the Kingfisher County Election Board between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, through Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Candidate filing packets are available on the State Election Board website at https://oklahoma. gov/elections/candidates/ candidate-filing.html and at the County Election Board office, which is located in Room 8 of the Kingfisher County Courthouse.

In addition to the Declaration of Candidacy, candidates must also submit a Voter Registration Verification Form, which can be obtained from the County Election Board or by logging into the OK Voter Portal at https://oklahoma.gov/ elections/ovp. html.

Information on the Voter Registration Verification Form must match the information provided on the Declaration of Candidacy.

Shawna Butts, secretary of the Kingfisher County Election Board, reminds candidates that Contests of Candidacy must be filed no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, and may only be filed by another candidate for that office.

Contests against unopposed candidates may be filed by contacting the County Election Board.

If more than two candidates file for the same seat, a primary election will be held Tuesday, Feb., 11, 2025.

If one candidate receives more than 50 percent of the votes, that candidate will be named the elected official.

If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the votes, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will vie for the seat during the general election Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

If only two candidates file for the same seat, those two candidates’ names will appear on the general election ballot in April.

Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted for the following offices and are for five-year terms (Note: All seats opening up are Office No. 5 unless otherwise noted.): • Cashion, currently held by Jake McKeever;

• Dover, currently held by Larry Harviston;

• Hennessey, currently held by Patrick Griffin;

• Kingfisher, currently held by Carly Franks;

• Lomega, currently held by Matt Oppel;

• Okarche, currently held by Rob Anderson;

• Chisholm Trail Technology Center, Office No. 2, currently held by Rondi Andrews.

Some voters inside Kingfi sher County borders also fall within districts of other schools and technology centers and can vote in those elections.

They include Drummond, Crescent, Okeene, Covington-Douglas, Cimarron, Piedmont, Autry Technology Center and Francis Tuttle Technology Center.
