School board filing starts Monday

Filing begins Monday for school board seats on each of the six county public school districts as well as Chisholm Trail Technology Center.

Qualified candidates may file at the Kingfisher County Election Board office at the Kingfisher County Courthouse from 8 a.m. Monday until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6.

Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted for the following offices:

• Kingfisher, Seat No. 4, five-year term, currently held by Charles Walker;

• Dover, Seat No. 4, fiveyear term, currently held by Cortney Fuston;

• Lomega, Seat No. 4, fiveyear term, currently held by Julie Myers;

• Hennessey, Seat No. 4, five-year term, currently held by Amy Charmasson;

• Cashion, Seat No. 4, fiveyear term, currently held by Steve Andrews;

• Okarche, Seat No. 4, fiveyear term, currently held by Ryan McIlvain; • Chisholm Trail Technology Center, Seat No. 1, five-year term, currently held by Jeff Hyatt.

Candidate filing packets are available on the State Election Board website at https:// oklahoma.gov/elections/candidates/ candidate-filing.html and at the County Election Board office.

In addition to the Declaration of Candidacy, candidates must also submit a Voter Reg- istration Verification Form, which can be obtained from the County Election Board or by logging into the OK Voter Portal at https:// oklahoma. gov/ elections/ ovp.html.

Information on the Voter Registration Verification Form must match the information provided on the Declaration of Candidacy.

Shawna Butts, secretary of the Kingfisher County Election Board, reminds candidates that Contests of Candidacy must be filed no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, and may only be filed by another candidate for that office.

Contests against unopposed candidates may be filed by contacting the County Election Board.

If more than two candidates file for the same seat, a primary election will be held Tuesday, Feb. 13. If one candidate receives more than 50% of the votes, that candidate will be named the elected official.

If no candidate receives more than 50% of the votes, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will vie for the seat during general election Tuesday, April 2.

If only two candidates file for the same seat, those two candidates’ names will appear on the general election ballot in April.

Also, voters who live in Kingfisher County also fall in the boundaries of other school districts and technology centers that are having board elections, including, Drummond, Piedmont, Okeene, Covington-Douglas, Crescent, Cimarron, Canadian Valley Technology Center, Francis Tuttle Technology Center and Autry Technology Center.
