Schwarz claims District 3 seat
Interim commissioner wins special election for full-time role
Anthony Schwarz is the interim District 3 commissioner in Kingfisher County.
It won’t be that way much longer.
Schwarz defeated Brandi Fuxa on Tuesday in a special election for the unexpired term of the seat on the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).
The longtime county employee won by a final tally of 561-311 (64.3%).
Schwarz will be sworn in to office during a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Kingfisher County Courthouse.
The seat came open when Heath Dobrovolny resigned in April to take a job in New Mexico.
Schwarz was Dobrovolny’s foreman in District 3 for the last five years and was named interim commissioner after Dobrovolny resigned.
Gov. Kevin Stitt called for the special election to coincide with the primary runoff election.
Three county districts - Kingfisher Senior Citizens Center, Okarche Public Schools and Lomega High School - voted for the commissioner seat.
Schwarz won in all three.
“I’d like to begin by thanking the voters of Kingfisher County for entrusting me with the opportunity to serve them,” Schwarz told the Times & Free Press.
His experience within the county and the district will prove beneficial, added Schwarz. “I feel that my skills and experience with the district’s road crew and my leadership along with my enthusiasm for this position will benefit the BOCC,” he said. “Being Heath’s foreman for the last five years has given me an advantage.”
Now it’s time for Schwarz to put his own stamp on the district as he serves out the term that runs through the end of 2026.
“Road and bridge repair is a priority,” he said. “I plan to be aggressive with these improvements.”
However, he added, it will be “imperative” to use taxpayer dollars wisely in all areas of county government, he said.
He’ll do that, he said, in part by being a good peer within the county courthouse.
“I look forward to having a cooperative relationship with all elected officials and county offices/departments,” Schwarz said. “It is my desire to be a driving force and have a positive outlook on the forward momentum of the county. I look forward to meeting the challenges head on.”
