Semi strikes and damages Broadway Avenue overpass

East Broadway Avenue in Kingfisher was temporarily shut down Friday night after a semi-truck damaged the overpass.

According to a report from the Kingfisher Police Department, a 2016 Peterbilt semi hauling a trailer was westbound on East Broadway, which is also State Highway 33.

The report said when the truck, driven by Rustin Roy Walden of Marlow, drove under the overpass, the load on the trailer hit the structure.

The collision resulted in the trailer detaching from the truck and the load breaking into multiple pieces.

Those pieces covered both lanes of the highway and also caused some visible damage to the underside of the overpass.

M6 Wrecker cleared the trailer and debris from the scene and the semi was able to be driven from the scene. Walden was not injured, the report said.

Oklahoma Department of Transportation owns and maintains the bridges and sent a representative to the scene, the report said.

The ODOT representative said an engineer would be sent to check the structural integrity of the bridge “as soon as possible.”

City of Kingfisher Street Department employees have placed “road closed” signs to keep vehicles from using the east turnaround until the bridge can be checked, the report said.
