September sales tax checks provide increase for Hennessey, Okarche, Dover

By

Hennessey, Okarche and Dover received larger sales tax checks in September, according to the monthly report of the Oklahoma Tax Commission.

The September 2024 distribution of sales tax collections by the Okla-homa Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from July retail business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from July 16 to July 31 and estimated sales from August 1 to 15.

The disbursement of $203,259,579 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $2,672,355 from the $200,587,224, distributed to them in July last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $38,540,158.

In county returns, the counties shared in $34,191,508 sales tax disbursements and $7,530,858 in use tax disbursements.

Payments by oil companies on purchases they make for drilling materials, which they pay tax on to local entities, can cause large fluctuations in total tax receipts.

The accompanying chart lists sales tax comparisons with September 2023 for selected area towns and cities as well as neighboring counties.
