Sex offenses against children alleged in two unrelated cases

By

Two Kingfisher men were arrested last week on unrelated felony charges involving alleged sexual offenses against minors.

James E. McCormick Jr., 58, 1607 S. 19th St., Kingfisher, was charged last Thursday in Kingfisher County District Court with one count of lewd or indecent proposals to a child under 16.

According to an affidavit signed by Kingfisher Police Officer Jeffrey Robbins, McCormick allegedly exposed himself to a 12-year-old girl and asked her to touch his genitals in an incident reported to have occurred last month.

The girl reported the alleged incident to her mother and grandmother, who contacted the police.

McCormick was arrested Friday and remained jailed at the Kingfisher County Justice Center on $50,000 bond as of press time Tuesday, according to online court records.

If convicted, he faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

He is scheduled to return to court Wednesday for his initial appearance on the charge.

Tracy Wayne Gardner, 48, 5718 E 840 Road, Kingfisher, was charged Thursday with one count of child sexual abuse and one count of lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16.

According to an affidavit signed by Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Deputy Chuck Countryman, two female victims reported that Gardner had sexually assaulted them.

One victim alleged multiple incidents when she was between the ages of eight or nine and 13. The other victim reported a single incident in 2016 when she was 12.

Gardner was arrested Thursday and released on $25,000 bond. He also is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday.

If convicted, Gardner faces a potential sentence of up to life in prison on the child abuse charge and up to 20 years on the charge of lewd or indecent acts to a child.
