Sign-up for group walking at former Senior Center is under way in Hennessey
A walking program for all ages is scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Hennessey Community Center, 620 E. 2nd St.
It will be from 1 to 2 p.m. each of those days.
The sessions are free and open to anyone who is “interested in walking in groups.”
Sessions will start Tuesday, Jan. 13, and run through Feb. 19.
It’s “designed for those who need relief from arthritis pain, or who just want to be active,” said Tina Ruding, who will present the program.
Ruding has been on staff as an education specialist for the Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative at the University of Oklahoma for 11 years.
“I enjoy teaching seniors how to live healthier lives, to care for their loved ones, to make connections with other seniors and to work on balance and strength,” she told The Times & Free Press.
“The walking class is a fun way to move, gain strength and meet new people,” she added.
Ruding said the first session this month will begin “with a short discussion important to successful walking, or arthritis management. Participants will develop their individual walking plans, learn stretches techniques and tips to improve current mobility and endurance.”
For more information and/or to register for the class, contact her at Tina- Ruding@ ouhsc. edu or call 580-402-9196.
