Skimmer found on gas pump at a Hennessey truck stop
A credit card skimmer was found on a gasoline pump at the Main Street Truck Stop located on the northeast corner of U.S. Highway 81 and State Highway 51 in Hennessey.
Those devices illegally capture credit cards and PIN numbers and one was found and reported to the Hennessey Police Department at about noon Wednesday, Nov. 13, by a “Double Check” employee.
That employee told HPD Sgt. Christian Solis that his company was notified the day before by the truck stop staff “about an error code on the machine” after a customer told cashiers that one of the pumps wasn’t working.
Main Street Truck Stop employees tried “resetting it, but it still didn’t work,” Solis wrote in his report, “and that’s why they called Double Check to fix it.”
The truck stop manager wasn’t at the store when Solis was there.
Employees told Solis when he came in that “he’d check the surveillance cameras to see if he could identify someone tampering with the pump.”
Solis took photos of the skimmer before and after it was removed.
“I removed the skimmer with a screwdriver, and secured it in the trunk of my patrol car,” he wrote in his report.
The “silver credit card skimmer,” valued at $500, was “branded Verifone,” and placed in the evidence room, the report shows.
