Snowfall deep, not disruptive
Local Weather Observer Steve Loftis measured a total of six inches of snow from last week’s snowstorm, producing .24 inch of moisture.
The Mesonet site west of Kingfisher on the Mueggenborg farm also showed .24 inch of moisture.
High wind accompanied the dry snow, blowing much of it into drifts in fence lines and borrow ditches.
While the moisture was small, local wheat fields appeared greener as the snow melted.
Kingfisher schools closed Wednesday through Friday due to the snow and the Kingfisher Courthouse closed Thursday and Friday. Other schools in the county also closed due to road conditions.
The blowing snow covered roads and highways throughout the county. District highway department snow plows went to work early on local highways to remove blockages as did county road graders in rural areas.
Kingfisher Police Department officers investigated two minor traffic accidents due to icy conditions but otherwise things were pretty quiet, a department spokesperson said.
The Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Department also reported no major problems due to the snow.
