Sparks tops Roller for commissioner’s seat

Mike Sparks will succeed Ray Shimanek as the District 2 commissioner in Kingfisher County.

Sparks, a Republican, defeated Democrat candidate David Roller in Tuesday’s general election.

He will be sworn in along with other county officers during a ceremony at the Kingfisher County Courthouse on Jan. 2, 2025.

Shimanek announced earlier this year that he was retiring effective at the end of the year.

Sparks picked up 1,483 of the 1,747 votes cast (84.89 percent) for the office, which was only open to voters of District 2.

Roller picked up 15.11 percent.

Sparks has worked for Kingfisher County District 2 for a combined 27 years.

He previously defeated Austin Whittenburg 526196 in the Republican primary in June.

Another seat Kingfisher County voters helped decide was for District 41 state representative.

Republican Incumbent Denise Crosswhite Hader won her re-election bid as she picked up 14,311 votes, or 68.42 percent.

That bested Democrat Mike Bockus’ 6,606 votes (31.58 percent).

In the county, Crosswhite Hader earned 698 of the 833 votes cast, or 83.79 percent.

Also, Republican Brian Bingman was elected to the open seat on the Corporation Commission.

Bingman received 978,870 votes statewide, good for 63.68 percent.

Other candidates were Democrat Harold Spradling, who garnered 444,254 votes (28.90 percent) and Libertarian Chad Williams, who picked up 114,128 votes (7.42 percent).

Again, the county was in agreement.

Bingman picked up 5,439 votes here, good for 82.04 percent.
