Staff committee will discuss HPS needs

The needs of the Hennessey Public Schools’ campus – inside and outside the classrooms – will be discussed in a staff Project Committee Monday.

That’s to provide information when discussing any future bond needs, Superintendent Jason Sternberger told board members during their 20-minute meeting Monday, Aug. 8.

Surplus metal building

The board voted to declare a red metal building at 601 N. Mitchell as surplus property.

That 30x60x12 building is immediately north of the softball fields. It must be moved and will be sold as is and includes removal of any “loose contents inside or outside the building.”

The current people on the property were told they had to be out by Oct. 7, Sternberger told the board.

Sealed bids must be submitted by 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Administration Office inside the Eagle Event Center, where they will be opened and read aloud.

The bids will be presented to school board members for their consideration at their regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, in the Seminar Room at the HPS Auditorium.

The school purchased that property and the Mary’s Tire Shop land on the southeast corner of State Highway 51 at Mitchell Road in August 2021 at auction. The district paid $81,400 plus closing costs.

Personnel

Hired as adjunct teachers for one hour a day were current employees Matthew Fuksa, middle school physical education, and Stephanie Guinn, high school art.

Also hired were Hugo Rodriguez and Vriana Villalobos as elementary classroom aides; Ashlyn Bingham as a daycare employee and Alejandra Caldron as a middle school English Language Learners aide.

Added on the extra duty assignment schedules were Katie Soudek, elementary site test coordinator, $500; Lindsey Jones, middle school assistant site test coordinator $500, and Raeanna Fuksa, audio visual $3,500.

Sternberger said these were all existing positions. Sternberger said he had resignations from Bradi Pospisil, a daycare employee and bus driver, and Morgan Wymore, an Early Childhood Center aide.

Fundraisers approved

A list of fundraisers for the new school year were approved under the board’s consent agenda: Cheer, car wash (July); middle school PTO, zombie run (October); HECC outdoor classroom pre-game meal (September) and t-shirt sales (February); wrestling, t-shirt sales, Community First Sonic cards and email and text donations (October/ December); middle school/high school and elementary libraries, book fair (September and February); and speech and debate, dinner theatre (2022-23).

Fundraisers approved in June were: FFA, Blue & Gold Sausage sales and shop project sales (yearround), and high school cheer, mini-cheer camp (football and basketball), 2022 and 2023.

At the meeting

Board members at the meeting were President Luke Lough, Patrick Griffi n and Dr. James Matthew Matousek.

Absent were Vice President Cristopher Choate and Clerk David Tillman.

In addition to the superintendent, also at the board table was Timberly Jech, office manager and minutes clerk for the meeting.

Staff in the audience were Principals Josh Faulkner (high school), Ricardo Tarango (middle), Barry Crosswhite (elementary) and Stacey Mack (early childhood).

Other staff there were Todd Cameron, technology director, and Rae Fuksa, middle school teacher.

Also there at the start of the meeting were eight new teachers who were introduced by their principals.

They were: Gene Bennett, P.E. teacher/wrestling coach; Tracy Bennett, elementary reading remediation teacher; Matthew Thomas, high school math; Carrie Schwarz, high school English/volleyball coach; Caitlyn Cramer, second grade teacher; Katie Soudek, elementary/ ECC counselor; Evelyn Rodriquez, middle school remediation teacher, and Hailey Fisher, high school family and consumer science.
