State Legislature lauds Yellowjackets

Led by State Sen. Darcy Jech of Kingfisher, State Sen. Chuck Hall of Perry and Rep. Mike Dobrinski of Okeene, the Oklahoma State Legislature honored the Kingfisher boys’ basketball team on Thursday for winning the 2022 Oklahoma Class 4A State Championship last month.

Competing in Oklahoma City at the historic Jim Norrick Arena, the Kingfisher Yellowjackets toppled the second-ranked Tulsa Victory Christian School 51-43 to win the class 4A title.

The team finished with a four-year record of 107-4 and a season record of 28-1, matching the best record in school history.

“It was an honor to recognize the accomplishments of our Kingfisher men’s basketball team on the Senate floor,” Jech said.

“Not only are these men competitive athletes, but they also excel academically, finishing the season with a cumulative GPA of 3.81. These are the type of well-rounded students that will no doubt move on to make a difference in our state and become our future leaders.

“I know I speak for the entire Kingfisher community when I say how incredibly proud we are of this team.

“I also want to thank Head Coach Jared Reese and Assistant Coaches Chris Combs and Danny Green for their dedication to this team.

“Their commitment to these young men is the reason for their success over the last few years and will leave a lasting impact on each of their lives.”
