Storms bring decent amounts of rainfall, small doses of hail

Rain fell across Kingfisher County over the weekend, possibly delaying the start of wheat harvest for a few days.

There were even some reports of small hail.

Kingfisher Weather Observer Steven Loftis recorded a total of 2.68 inches at the National Weather Service Station in Kingfisher.

The Mesonet site at the Mueggenborg farm immediately west of Kingfisher recorded 1.16 inches with a three-day total of 1.44 inches.

Tom Arms west of Kingfi sher recorded 1.25 inches on Sunday. Twila Adams east of Kingfisher reported one inch while Jeremy Ingle southeast of Hennessey reported “not much.”

The Mesonet site at Marshall located further northeast reported only .11 inch.

Other area Mesonet three-day amounts included: Watonga, .81 inch, Guthrie, 2.34 inches and El Reno, 1.19 inches. Heaviest total reported was 6.72 inches in southeast Oklahoma.

Storms that brought Sunday evening’s rains also brought with them some hail, at least in the southwest portion of Kingfisher.

Pea-sized hail and slightly larger fell for several minutes, though there was no report of any damage.

Area grain fields continued to turn golden as the traditional starting date for harvest approached.

Other local rain readings included the following: Monday morning – Arms, three miles west of Kingfisher, 1.1 inches; Barry Crosswhite, 10 miles east of Kingfisher, .7 inch; Cathy Howard, northwest of Lacy, .26 inch; Sheryl Schroeder, south of Okarche, .5 inch, and Marsha Mueggenborg, .59 inch.

Tuesday – Arms, .3 inch; Cathy Howard, .4 inch and Saundra Krittenbrink, two miles west of Okarche, .55 inch.
