Kim Moroney of Kingfisher holds up just one of the many “ornamental” sweet potatoes which developed from her spring bedding plants. During her many years of gardening, Moroney said she’s “never seen anything like it.” Of the approximately 10 ornamental sweet potato vine plants she planted, she has harvested over 30 potatoes of varying sizes. After researching the internet, Moroney discovered the produce is supposedly edible, but “not very tasty.” Moroney brought a specimen by the newspaper offi ce and thought it would be interesting to know if anyone else has had a similar experience with their ornamental sweet potato vines.
