Tax bills could be mailed this week
Kingfisher County residents have been awaiting their tax bills for several weeks.
The wait may soon be over.
County Treasurer Robin Rother said she “anticipates” mailing out tax bills to residents Monday, Dec. 16.
The bills are generally sent out around the first of November, but were held up this year until a resolution was found regarding the budget for Kingfisher Public Schools.
The county excise board approved - for the second time - a KPS estimate of needs on Nov. 24, which allowed the county to finalize its budget.
The budget still had to go through the state level and await a 15-day protest period.
Once that expired, Kingfisher County Assessor Carrie Turner was able to complete the tax rolls and turn them over to Rother for her to begin to generate the tax bills.
“We did get the tax roll and it does take us several days to update all the mortgage codes and mobile home 936’s,” Rother said.
That was almost complete near the end of last week, giving Rother hope the tax bills will be sent out this week.
“That could be subject to change if we run into any speed bumps,” Rother said.
County residents won’t be in a time crunch to get their tax bills paid before the end of the year.
With the late mailing comes a later deadline.
“We will extend the payment due 30 days from the date of the statement with no penalties,” Rother said.
