Some seven dozen caps and thousands of pieces of confetti on Saturday flew into the air of the All-Purpose Building.

The caps were thrown and the confetti was shot out of mini-canons as Kingfisher High School’s Class of 2023 celebrated its graduation.

Hundreds packed into the gymnasium to see 84 students receive a KHS diploma as well as several other special presentations.

Among them was announcing Karla Eischen and Beth Schieber as inductees into the KHS Hall of Fame (see story in future edition).

Marta Dominguez, a foreign exchange student from Spain, was presented a Meritorious Medal and an honorary diploma.

Graduating senior Andrew Osborn also presented an honorary diploma to family members of Daniel Mann.

Mann was a classmate of the graduating class who passed away after a car wreck in May 2017.

The seniors left empty what would have been Mann’s seat at the graduating ceremony to honor him and he was included in the “Diapers to Diplomas” slide show.

The diploma was presented to Mann’s grandmother, Gloria Smith, and aunt, Valerie Smith.

Nine class valedictorians addressed the crowd with a speech.

Kyle Borelli, Cade Cooper, Natalie Dick, Harrison Evans, Ivy Hartman, Caden Kitchens, Maddox Mecklenburg, Taylor Mills and Alli Themer each used a letter from the word “motivated” to be the theme of their respective speeches.

Prior to diplomas being presented by Superintendent David Glover, KHS Principal John Harris and members of the board of education, Hartman opened with the invocation and Cooper led the flag salute.

Avery Davis welcomed the crowd before Katie Beecher performed a vocal selection.

Emily Myers and Xavier Ridenour introduced the two new hall of fame inductees.

The “Diapers to Diplomas” slide show was prepared by Aline Jordan.

After diplomas were awarded, Glover provided closing remarks and Themer the benediction.

Members of the KHS band performed “Pomp and Circumstance” as the processional and recessional while juniors Kylie Hood, Peyton Walker, Eli Johnson and Coleman Gilles served as honor attendants.
