A Warr Acres man died last Friday from injuries suffered when the semi-truck he was driving was struck by a train near Okarche.

Hugo J. Barrera, 22, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mercy Hospital Kingfisher, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The report said Barrera was driving a 2001 Freightliner on 234th Street NW just west of North Country Club Road about one-quarter mile from Okarche in Canadian County.

The report said Barrera was eastbound at about 2:30 p.m., came to a stop before it reached train tracks, then proceeded across the tracks.

The semi-truck was struck by a Union Pacific locomotive engineered by Ronald Johnson.

The train and semitruck came to a rest about three-tenths of a mile after impact, the report said. It also stated Barrera was ejected.

The report was filed by Trooper Zachary Wallis of Canadian County Troop A.

Assisting the OHP on the scene were Canadian County Sheriff’s Office, Okarche Police Department, Okarche Fire Department and Kingfisher EMS.
