U.S. Senate candidate visiting Kingfi sher Monday

U.S. Senate candidate T.W. Shannon will be hosting a meet-and-greet this week in Kingfisher.

The former state speaker of the House will be at Johnsons of Kingfisher at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 25.

Everyone interested in meeting and speaking with the candidate are invited to attend, a representative for Shannon’s campaign said.

Shannon will be in a runoff election with Markwayne Mullin for the unexpired seat of Jim Inhofe, who is retiring at the end of the year.

Mullin garnered the most votes in the June 28 primary that featured 13 candidates, but fell short of the necessary majority to secure the nomination.

Mullin earned 43.6 percent of the votes.

Shannon was second with 17.5 percent.

The runoff election is Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Shannon is currently the CEO of Chickasaw National Bank.

He was the District 62 representative from 2007-15 and in 2013 became the first African-American to serve as speaker of the House.
