Vadder wins division at NW Ag Mechanics Show
Hennessey freshman designed, built winning custom desk
Hennessey freshman Vandin Vadder had his second consecutive win last week in the Wood Only Division of the Ag Mechanics Show Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the 2024 Northwest District Junior Livestock Show in Enid.
The second year ag mechanics student won for his desk project and also placed third in the Overall Showmanship category that included about 100 competitors.
Other Hennessey showmanship winners were Kaden Kennedy and Kaden Moulton, seventh place.
They made custom “updown bars.” Their ag teacher is Jorge Huizar.
Stock show competitions continue through Sunday, March 3.
Awards presentations and the premium sale auction are Monday, March 4 at 6:15 p.m.
Vadder’s winning project is a customized maple desk with a galaxy-themed solid epoxy top.
He designed the desk using SketchUp, a 3-D modeling software.
He drew it in the Mozaik program and imported it to a CNC machine used to cut the parts.
Vadder, 15, designed the desk from the shell to the drawers to face frames, and trim.
Then he assembled, sanded and stained the desk while also pouring and curing the epoxy desktop and leg.
He also added LED lights to bring his galaxy-themed top to life.
You’d think he thought that was the “coolest thing about the desk,” but you might be wrong.
It may be because “the drawers are file width.”
That way he could “add cabinet rails and the desktop is removable so it could be interchangeable.
That’s so if he, or a potential customer, wanted to make a change, they could.
Vadder is the son of Karl (1998 Hennessey High School graduate) and Lacy (Reilly, 2000 HHS) Vadder.
Grandparents are Barry and Kathi (Beaman, 1972 HHS) Reilly and Joe Vadder (HHS 1971).
