Water shut off 7 hours in Hennessey to repair line

The entire town of Hennessey was without water for multiple hours Monday after a large waterline issue.

“We had two pumps going, but we couldn’t keep up with it because that’s a six-inch water line and there was a 1-1/2 ft. hole in the pipe so we had to shut off the water Monday,” said Hennessey Town Administrator Tiffany Tillman.

The waterline break was on West Fourth and South Main streets next to Cord-ry-Gritz Funeral Home.

It started sometime after 4 p.m. she said.

They soon realized they’d have to shut off the water townwide.

Notices that the water would be shut off at 5 p.m. were sent to customer’s cell and landlines at 4:30 p.m. and it was back on by midnight.

The cause of the crack in the pipe is not known, Tillman said, “and we lost a lot of water.”
