We love a PARADE
Excitement was building Friday for the return of Kingfisher’s nighttime Christmas parade and downtown fireworks display, one of the most popular holiday events in northwest Oklahoma.
If you’re seeing this paper before Saturday evening (digital subscribers can access the Sunday paper late Friday afternoon), you still have time to make it to the 6 p.m. event.
Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shauna Rupp reported Friday that the Candy Land Christmas parade is limited to 50 entries and is at full capacity with a waiting list.
“We have more floats entered this year than we’ve had in years and marching bands from three schools,” Rupp said.
Parade organizers advise attendees to get to town early to avoid traffic and congestion closer to parade time.
“Stores will be open, local restaurants will be fully staffed and food trucks will be set up, so there’s plenty to do while you wait,” Rupp said.
Barricades were set to go up Friday night to block parallel parking spaces for parade watching and the entire block of West Miles Avenue between Main and Sixth streets is reserved for handicap parking.
After the parade, attendees will be able to step out from behind the barricades and into the streets to watch the fireworks display, sponsored by local businesses and choreographed to holiday music.
And don’t forget to take a trip through Kingfisher Winter Nights before you head home.
