Wehrenberg family holds annual reunion in Loyal
Fifty-two relatives and guests of the WC Wehrenberg family gathered on July 26 at the Loyal Evangelical Church to celebrate their heritage.
In 1901, Chas Wehrenberg, who had immigrated from Germany in 1869 and settled in Illinois, scouted out Oklahoma Indian territory for farms for his four boys.
He bought his first farm for $3,200 on the banks of the Cimarron River near the town of Kiel, now known as Loyal.
WC and Minnie Wehrenberg were wed on July 4, 1901, and the next day boarded a train headed for Dover to start their married life in Oklahoma Territory.
The farm continues to be in the family and is farmed by Erich Wehrenberg, a great-great-grandson of Chas. Farms for CH, George and Lewis were purchased at a later date.
Next year will be the 125th anniversary of the Wehrenbergs living in Oklahoma.
A “Wehrenberg Cousins” t-shirt has been created and a Wehrenberg family history book will be published for that occasion.
The afternoon was spent visiting, playing BINGO, bidding on silent auction items and visiting. The reunion concluded with a potluck meal.
The oldest member of the family was Merlan Hoskins and the youngest was Wyatt Roedel, son of Kayli Roedel.
Traveling the farthest was Ed Wehrenberg from Springfield, Mo.
Those present from Oklahoma were Ken and Connie Kimmel and Frank Staude from Loyal: Donnie Wehrenberg, Robert Wehrenberg, Alfred and Nancy Teders, Brian and Sharon Miller and sons, Matthew and Samuel and Yesenia Gonzalez from Kingfisher; Gary and Sheila Baustert, Violet Moeller and Billy Moeller from Okarche; Merlan Hoskins, Leann Laubach, Roberta Seaton and Vivian Nguyen from Edmond; Justin and Gaylene Teders and Carman from Yukon; Misty and Inara Kimmel from El Reno; Bennie and Kathy Wehrenberg from Enid; Rodney and Tina Wehrenberg, Karben and Abigail Spencer from Skiatook; Cheri Valasco from Guthrie, Erick and Jenifer Wehrenberg from Morrison; Michael Wehrenberg, and Abby, and Ethan Weaver of Norman; and Tom Lisk and Janice Semrad from Medford.
