A day-long snow Thursday left 2.5 inches on the ground locally.

That related to .28 inch of moisture, Local Weather Observer Steve Loftis reported Friday. The system left snow wherever it went.

Southeast Oklahoma received the heaviest amounts.

Reports were received of 4.3 inches in Oklahoma City and a report of five inches came from Seminole County.

The Mesonet station on the Mueggenborg Farm west of Kingfisher recorded .04 inch early Friday before warming weather arrived to melt the snow.

Friday broke with clear skies after hitting a low of 13 degrees overnight.

The National Weather Service forecast predicted decreasing clouds during the day Friday, followed by a 16 degree low Friday night and sunny skies Saturday and Sunday with highs of 38 degrees Saturday and 42 degrees Sunday.

Warmer temperatures were forecasted for the early week with continued subfreezing temperatures during the nighttime.

The snow fell without wind allowing the snow to collect evenly on wheat fields, providing welcome moisture for them.

The snow affected highway conditions statewide.

Both I-40 headed east on the eastern side of the state and I-35 in the southern portion were gridlocked for several hours Thursday.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that from 6 a.m. to midnight Thursday, it responded to the following number of calls statewide:

• 458 non-injury collisions • 85 injury collisions

• 0 fatality collisions

• 254 motorist assists

• 43 abandoned vehicles There were no injury collisions reported by the OHP in Kingfisher County at press time of this edition.

Some county schools let out early Thursday, but all of them closed Friday.

That included Cashion, Dover, Hennessey, Kingfi sher, Lomega, Okarche, Chisholm Trail Technology Center and Holy Trinity Catholic School.

The weather also affected several activities, including this week’s slate of basketball tournaments. ( Ed. note: See those changes on Page 10 of this edition.)
