Witt, Schlegel earn Lions scholarships

Harley Schlegel and Reid Witt were announced as recipients of the Junior Lions scholarships awarded annually by the Kingfisher Lions Club.

The announcement was made by Kingfisher Lions Club President Cindy Harris during the civic group’s weekly meeting last Thursday.

The club annually hosts a banquet, but impending inclement weather last Monday forced its cancellation.

Junior Lions - all Kingfi sher High School seniors - from throughout the 202324 school year instead attended the club’s meeting at Farm Bureau Insurance.

Witt is the son of Wade and Kellee Witt.

He was active in soccer, FCA and takes pre-engineering courses at Chisholm Trail Technology Center.

He’s been named KHS Student of the Month three times, Student of the Quarter at CTTC and was named the Engineering Student of the Year at CTTC as well Witt also has been named to the National Technical Honor Society.

He was a captain on the soccer team and was recently named Class 3A All-State by the Oklahoma Soccer Coaches Association.

He also plans to attend the University of Central Oklahoma to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.

Schlegel is the daughter of Aaron and Nikole Schlegel.

She was active in cheerleading, STUCO, Students Stepping Up, FCA and was a member of the 2023 Class 4A state championship competitive cheer team and the 2021 Class 4A academic state championship cheer team.

Schlegel is a member of the National Honor Society and Oklahoma Honor Society, on the yearbook staff, has received the 4.0 Award and Academic Award and attends Life.Church.

She plans to attend the University of Central Oklahoma and pursue a degree in nursing, specializing in the area of labor and delivery.

Other Junior Lions recognized throughout the year have included Kylie Hood, Libbie Barnett, Eli Johnson, Amy Deatherage, Jake Reagan, Chloe Blair, Andrew Long, Peyton Walker, Cy Jones, Emmy Lunsford, Jorden Beck, Kate Henderson, Coleman Gilles, Kale Hart, Remi Boutwell and Landon Eaton.
