WOCDA Honor Choir has 20 from Kingfisher
The Western Oklahoma Choral Directors Association Honor Choir will have a strong Kingfisher sound this year.
Twenty students total from Kingfisher were selected to the choir after auditions Sept. 24 at Woodward High School.
Approximately 500 students took part in a blind audition.
The top-30 scores for each voice part earn a place in the honor choir.
“The process is the same for all-state and is a great preparation for that more difficult audition,” said Diann Magnus, choral director for Kingfisher Public Schools.
Eight from Kingfisher were selected to the high school honor choir, which is for 10th-12th grades: senior Katie Beecher, juniors Breona McConnell, Olivia Reyes, Raechel Evans, Hannah Click and Elijah Johnson; sophomores Bianca Garcia and Cherith Stephenson.
Beecher is earning a three-year medal for the choir.
Selected to the junior high (7th-9th grades) choir were: freshmen Rylee Hamil, Sydnie Toepfer, Elizabeth Pickle, Isabella Go-mez, Paislee Osterholt, Indy Barker, T.J. Washington and Andrew Takape; eighth grader Caroline Swafford; and seventh graders Haven Branson and Kynslee Nance.
Hamil, Toepfer, Pickle, Gomez and Barker are earning their three-year medals as well.
They will perform Oct. 24 at the WOCDA Honor Choir Festival at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
Also this month, KPS choral students will begin their quest to earn all-state.
The first round of those tryouts is Oct. 29.
Those tryouts are hosted by the Oklahoma Choral Directors Association.
Auditions will be at four different sites in the state.
