Browning takes 6th at Cushing

By

Gant Browning was Kingfisher’s lone placer and scored half of the team’s points at last weekend’s Cushing Tiger Invitational wrestling tournament.

Browning took sixth at 113 pounds after being edged by Cushing’s Iziah Tusler, 4-2, in the fifthplace match.

“I was proud of our guys,” first-year coach Bryan Dutton said. “It was a really tough tournament.”

Thirty teams competed and Blackwell emerged as the winner with 194 points. Cushing was the runner-up with 167.

The Jackets managed 26 points with 13 being attributed to Browning.

The sophomore won his first two matches by fall, including at 3:16 over Grove’s Conley Logue in the quarterfinals.

A technical fall loss to Ft. Gibson’s Blade Walden in the semifinals and then in a tie-breaker to Chickasha’s Colby Longacre in the consolation semifinals put Browning in the fifth-place match.

Senior Isaac Long was one match shy of placing at 160 pounds.

Long pinned Bryson Hall of Guthrie at 4:20 in the first round and then earned a 12-4 major decision over Skyler Bean of Bridge Creek.

He lost his quarterfinal match by a 7-5 decision to Blanchard’s Ethan Warren then came back to win his first consolation match with a 12-4 major decision over Zane Hendrix of Poteau.

Long then lost his next consolation match, which kept him out of placing round.

Grayson Bromlow went 1-2 in his matches at 182 pounds.

The senior finished two wins shy of placing and scored four points for the team.
