Cashion’s Harman earns football All-State pick, commits to UCO
2 more Wildcats, 1 Yellowjacket are selected as all-stars
One of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Oklahoma high school history has another highlight for his resume.
Cashion’s Ben Harman last week was named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State football team.
Harman was one of three Wildcats and four county players to earn a spot on the OCA’s all-star teams for their respective classes.
He later landed a spot on the All-State team as a quarterback and will play for the West when it meets up with the East selections at the annual OCA All-State football game in late July.
“It’s a huge honor and one that’s not easy to get,” Cashion coach Lynn Shackelford said. “We’re very proud of him earning the selection.”
Just days after the selection, Harman committed to continue his football career at the University of Central Oklahoma.
New head coach Adam Dorrel and his staff have told Harman he’ll play either defensive back or wide receiver at the next level.
Harman said it doesn’t matter.
“I was still just wanting to play football,” he said. “I had a couple more visits to other schools lined up, but after I went on UCO’s visit, it felt like home so I chose them.”
Shackelford said Harman is a winner no matter the position he plays.
“He was a great QB for us and one of the best to ever do it in Oklahoma, but at the end of the day, he’s a football player,” Shackelford said.
“He will be successful at whatever position they put him at.”
Only six players have thrown for more than 10,000 yards in Oklahoma 11-man history.
Two of them come from Cashion and they grew up in the same home.
Matt Harman, who guided Cashion to two state runner-up finishes during his career, threw for 11,208 yards and 142 touchdowns.
Those rank fourth and third, respectively, in the all-time record books.
Ben Harman closed his career with 10,696 yards and 145 TDs passing.
Those numbers are good for fifth and second, respectively.
However, the elder Harman wasn’t able to garner the OCA All-State nod his younger brother just received.
“Like I said, it’s a tough accomplishment,” Shackelford said. “It’s not one you take lightly.”
The younger Harman collected his numbers in just three years as a starter.
With Harman as the quarterback, Cashion was 44-2, played in three state title games and won the 2020 and 2021 Class A state championships.
“He’s been a great player for Cashion and I’m excited for his future,” Shackelford said.
Joining Harman on the Class A all-star team are Cashion’s Mason Manning and Landon LaGasse.
Manning was named as a defensive back.
He collected 65 tackles, fourth on the team, and two fumble recoveries for the Wildcats while also hauling in 104 passes for 1,830 yards and 16 TDs on offense.
LaGasse earned the designation as a receiver after he caught 89 passes for 1,692 yards and 29 scores during his senior campaign.
Kingfisher High School’s Slade Snodgrass was named a Class 3A all-star.
Snodgrass was named as a wide receiver.
He led KHS with 28 catches for 485 yards and six touchdowns despite having to start four games at quarterback during the season.
Snodgrass was also second on the team in rushing with 458 yards and five touchdowns and he led the team with 83 total tackles, four interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
