Cashion cheer wins Game Day regional title, is bound for state
Kingfisher, Crescent teams also qualify for state
Cashion claimed a regional championship last weekend and now has its sights set on one of the state variety.
With 453.6 points, Cashion won an OSSAA Game Day regional title last Saturday in Stroud. It bested 32 other teams in the competition, which includes fight song, crowd leading and band dance categories to come up with the final score.
Crescent took third in the regional with 432.6 points. Arkoma was between the two local schools with 447 points.
The top-15 scoring teams from the regional advance to state, which will be Saturday at Moore High School.
State consists of two rounds.
All 15 will compete in the preliminary round and then the top-six scoring teams move into the finals.
Cashion will perform at 9:20 a.m. and Crescent at 9:55 a.m.
Finals performances begin at 10:45 a.m.
In the regional, Cashion earned 156.2 points for fight song, 188.8 for crowd leading and 108.6 for band dance.
Crescent totaled 153.8 for fight song, 179.8 for crowd leading and 99 for band dance.
Neither team had any deductions.
Both squads have been mainstays at the Game Day state competition since it became an OSSAA recognized sort in 2017.
Crescent won the Game Day state title in 2020 and earlier this fall won the traditional competitive cheerleading crown.
Last year at Game Day state, Cashion finished fourth and Crescent fifth.
KHS moves on in Class 4A
Kingfisher High School will also be making a return trip to the Game Day state competition.
KHS was 14th at last weekend’s Class 4A regional at Crossings Christian School in Oklahoma City.
The team notched 383.4 points. Purcell was 15th with 382.8 and Holland Hall just missed the cut with 382.4 points.
Crossings Christian, the defending state champion, won the regional with 430.2 points, easily surpassing runner-up Bethany’s 413.
Kingfisher scored 136.2 points in fight song, 153.8 in crowd leading and 93.4 in band dance.
It will perform in the state preliminaries at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Moore High School.
The 4A finals begin at 1:20 p.m.
KHS made the finals in 2021 and eventually finished sixth at state.
